Limbless Frenchman to swim around the world (local6)
A Frenchman announced plans this week to swim around the world despite having
no arms or legs.
Philippe Croizon and his swimming partner Arnaud Chassery want to link the
world's five continents by swimming across a series of narrow straits that
separate them, Reuters reported.
Croizon lost his limbs following an electrical accident, and said he wants to
send a universal message with the feat.
"We are going to symbolically link the five continents, two little people like
us, two little men, we're going to be able to build a bridge between the
continents... That means that we're going to bring them together. Which means
no one is very far from each other. So even if we have different political
opinions, or skin colours, of even with our disabilitites, we all live on the
same planet. And that's the clear message we want to send," he said.
Croizon has already swam the English Channel, and uses prosthetic limbs and
fins attached to the stumps of his legs to make his way through the water, The
Daily Telegraph reported.
The pair plan to leave France on May 6 for the first leg of their journey,

Where can I find large swim fins?
I am in 16-18 fins and I'm only 13, but I am out growing them. I were size 15 shoes and I am out growing those too. Where does Phelps buy his? Or where can I get fins online in "sasquatch" size?
The manufacturers of swim fins all seem to be waiting for proof that "sasquatch" exists.
Full foot fins (barefoot fins) all seem to end at size 13 but you do have options left.
My suggestion is to go the route of what are called "strap fins" or "open heel fins". See the link below.

These fins are usually used by scuba divers and are worn with wetsuit boots. They are more forgiving for those with larger sized feet because they are adjustable.
Deep See does make the booties worn with the fins up to a size 17 but they are usually a special order item. The materials used in the foot pocket area of the strap fins tends to be a bit stiffer which is the reason that some sort of footgear should be worn with it. Something as simple as a thicker pair of athletic socks work as well.
Be careful not to get the strap fins that are made to be worn barefooted as the foot pocket on those are smaller.
When trying on strap fins most of your foot should fit into the foot pocket (at least past the arch of your foot) otherwise cramping in the arch of your feet may occur.
